Bacon, eggs and good company

A big thank you to everyone who came to savour local products at the community breakfast on Sunday January 24th, especially all of the volunteers who contributed to the event’s success. In all, 200 people showed up at the Club d’Age d’Or de Cocagne. The atmosphere was festive as people gathered with friends and family to eat great food, meet others and earn more about our region’s agricultural producers. The participant’s enthusiasm leads us to believe that there will be more.

… You could also taste bread baked by Jean-Guy Poirier of Grande Digue. The latter was present at the breakfast and he spoke about his operation “We’ve been harvesting our own wheat for the past four years. We bought a old style flour mill, with an eight-inch stone, to grind our grain. We can grind 40 pounds of grain per hour. We harvest 1 to 3 tons of grain per year. We use it to make all of our family’s bread. We also use it to feed sheep and lamb that we raise for meat. There are a lot of things to learn. I am impressed to see that there are so many people at this breakfast. … ”
