Transition Cocagne, an initiative of the Pays de Cocagne Sustainable Development Group, will be hosting a community breakfast featuring products from Southeastern NB, Sunday February 12th, 2012 from 8am to 12pm at the Club 50 d’Âge d’Or in Cocagne. Storm date Sunday February 19, 2012, same time, same place.
Tickets are available at Cocagne Variety and Eudore Melanson Rite Stop, Cocagne NB, Canada. The cost is 10$ for adults and 5$ for children (under 12).

Next workshop – Poutines râpées and Meat Pies

During the festive season we often indulge in poutines râpées and meat pies. Learn to make these with Ms Doris and Ms. Geneva at the Club 50 d’Âge d’Or de Cocagne, Sunday December 11, 2011 (storm date December 18).

At a cost of $25, this workshop will allow you to learn how to make poutines râpées and meat pies as well as have 4 poutines for supper (if your bring your own container).

Come discover and learn, Sunday December 11, 2011, 8:30am -2 pm, at Club d’Âge d’Or de Cocagne, from Route 535, Cocagne, NB. (bring your lunch)

Visit of an alternative electricity production system (solar) and discussion

For those interested in learning more about net metering with solar panels we will visit Marielle and Jean-Guy Poirier at Champdoré farm. We will have a discussion about the installation and operation of the system.

The visit will take place on Saturday November 5, 2011, 1:30-2:30pm -74 T. Babineau Rd Grande-Digue, NB (off Babineau Rd).

Fall Activities

Some new activities are coming for this fall on energy and food.

On the energy front, we will have a workshop in October with EOS Eco-energy and locals expert on energy efficiancy. November will have presentations and visits on alternative energy projects in the region.

There will also be workshops on making sauerkraut and poutine rapé in November and December.

Next Activity – Learning to salt fresh snap beans

Salt is used in food conservation. Our ancestors salted fresh snap beans. Some people still do as is the case with Madame Doris. She has agreed to share with us her knowledge and expertise.

With a 10$ contribution you will go home with a container of salted bean. Please bring your own plastique or glass container (approx 1 gallon/4 liters) with cover. We will supply the water, the salt and the beans.

Come discover this food conservation method on Wednesday August 17, 2011, 6 :30pm at the Club d’Âge d’Or de Cocagne, entrance from Route 535, Cocagne, NB.

COMMUNITY DAY and GARAGE SALE, Sunday May 29th from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm

The Pays de Cocagne Sustainable Development Group’s (PCSDG) Transition Cocagne initiative wishes to invite you to Blanche Bourgeois School in Cocagne NB. The day will start at 9:00 am with a bird and butterfly discovery walk with guide Louis-Émile Cormier.

There will be a yard and plant sale between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. The PCSDG is inviting folks who want to sell their unused objects to bring their own table. The Cocagne Volunteer Firefighters will tend a BBQ from 10:00 am with proceeds to the Transition Cocagne Initiative.

During the day, people can discover and help out with the biodiversity garden at the school.

The day will end with a presentation by Karine Lapointe on ‘Starting a simple
and happy compost’ at 12:30 pm.

Next workshop -‘Grafting of apple trees- theory and practice’

Mr. Léopold Bourgeois, horticulturist of la Fleur du Pommier Farm, will explain the principles of grafting fruit trees in the warehouse as well as in the field. We will practice grafting and prepare an apple tree to be planted at the location of your choice.

Join us on Wednesday evening April 6, 2011 at 6:30 p.m., at Fleur du pommier Warehouse Cocagne Sud Road, Cocagne, NB.
